I got this message from Karina on May 19th:
“some news about my state of mind: so I tried to make fried eggs this morning. put one egg on the pan and realized it's still cold, like I just turned it on. I also broke it poorly and it was all ugly and spread out. so I waited some time, then realized I didn't add oil too, then I added liquid soap to the pan instead of it, then I realized what I've done and started cleaning this particular corner of the pan because the rest already had an egg and sausages. so I cleaned it, put the other egg, this one looked good and then I went to another room to ask Kirill if he wanted the ugly egg or the beautiful egg that had the remains of soap in it. these are the eggs.”
In the past three months, we’ve brought our browse over 3000 magazines, passed 10,000 members, custom-built and merged four years of Write or Die content onto our website with an offering of 30+ workshops, created a merch store, and launched a new membership program across our website with two Substack newsletters all while fixing roughly 1000 bugs, answering 1000 emails and remembering, on occasion, to eat (admittedly, mostly eggs).
But some good news! We have a pretty big team now. And we do presentations and stuff like professional people who DEFINITELY KNOW WHAT THEY’RE DOING.
And we’re totally happy and calm thanks to Marcin & Karina’s cats
OK, maybe not Karina’s cat:
Clearly:
To celebrate we updated our sanctuary by having Mariam turn more of us into birds:
It helped everyone relax except our designer Nikita:
So we tried to cope by yelling at each other:
Then Marcin got sick. Then Nikita got sick and messaged that we should all have a day where we don’t work and just reflect on Chill Subs’ vision. And I totally misunderstood (most of my best ideas come from misunderstanding things).
but I think he was OK with the misunderstanding:
And, really, we’ve all been feeling it.
But what has made it all possible? You’ll never guess. We didn’t…
Yay! Some people wanted to help us out for free. This is perfect because we work for free so it’s like…wait…are we our own interns?? Idk.
In our first meeting with Miley & Willem, two cats on the roof outside started viciously attacking each other so all you could hear was cat screeches for the first five minutes so before we talked about anything Chill Subs related, I just turned the camera to the roof and we all said, “Oh fuck” a lot while one cat cornered the other on the edge of our roof. Honestly? It was probably for the best to get a feel of our working environment right off the bat.
This has allowed us to start doing a full audit of our database, take some content off of our plate, and let us say really cool businessy-things like, “The interns are handling it.” And, “Do you need one of the interns to help you out today?”
So yeah, our priorities right now are to do a full audit of our database, sell some workshops, embed Sub Club into Chill Subs as a membership program, and apply our branding and redesigns across the website.
And celebrating Marcin’s birthday!
Who is Polish…
So yeah, that’s the news. Thank you all for your continued support! Please feel free to comment as much as you’d like and I’ll get back to you on Friday because Thursday is my Fuck Work Day. Yay!
it’s my Fuck Word Day today! I’m drinking tea and absolutely not thinking about Chill Subs
Your dedication is heroic. Possibly self-sacrificial, but I sure do appreciate it.
